Our top rated video streaming services

1. The Diplomat (Netflix)

Keri Russell is diplomat of the title, a woman forced to be the US ambassador to Great Britain when her husband might be better suited for it, as he’s kind of a big jerk. The show begins with everyone reeling from the literal explosive ending of the first season.

2. Trap (maximum)

A M. Night Shyamalan movie: trap is an incredible thriller featuring Josh Hartnett as a serial killer caught in a trap that is literally set in a giant, Beyonce-like concert. Ah, just for him?

3. Agatha All Along (Disney+)

Kathryn Hahn is back in her witch shoes just in time for the spooky season with her Agatha All Together. Everything happens three years after the events of WandaVision. The show ended its first and possibly only season earlier this week. It ended in a slightly contemplative way MCU shows or movies do. Some may find it anticlimactic, but for that they should watch the second to last episode, which has a lot of magical pew-pew fighting.

4. Substance (Mubi)

Demi Moore tackles the subject of aging and appearance standards through body horror, when a single injection makes her young enough to pass for Margaret Qualley, at least sometimes.

5. Woman of the Hour (Netflix)

For her directorial debut, Anna “Pitch PerfectKendrick tells the true-life tale of how a serial killer went on The dating game in the 1970s. She also plays the woman who (spoiler!) picks him up on a date.

6. Luanesha (Paramount+)

The second season of the spy show (formerly called Special Operations: Lioness) by creator and writer Taylor Sheridan is here. It brings back mega stars Zoe Saldana, Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman to recruit more women to fight terrorists.

7. Penguin (Max)

If you can’t get enough of Colin Farrell as the penguin Batmannow there is penguin. This miniseries chronicles Oswald “Oz” Cobb’s rise to power in Gotham. Farrell remains unrecognizable in heavy prosthetics and a full body, but his talent is, as ever, on display.

8. Don’t Move (Netflix)

If you’re looking for a chilling psychological thriller, Don’t Move follows a grieving woman who tries to heal in the woods, but instead meets a stranger who injects her with a paralytic agent.

9. Only Murder in the Building (Hulu)

Only “Murder in the Building” put stunts front and center this season, which just ended. The trio (Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez) solve Charles’ (Martin) stunt murder. While the murder took place in the Arconia, the Upper West Side building of the title, as required, the West Coast also got screen time as the podcast they all host is being made into a movie.

10. Time Interruption (Netflix)

Not to be confused with Totally killera slasher comedy film with the same premise on Prime Video, Cutting time also sends a heroine back in time to stop a serial killer. But in this one, she only has to go back to 2003, not 1987, so it should be a lot easier, right?

About Chandra Steele

Senior Features Writer

Chandra Steele

My title is Senior Features Writer, which is a license to write about absolutely anything if I can relate it to technology (I can). I’ve been at PCMag since 2011 and have covered the state of surveillance, vaccination cards, ghost guns, voting, ISIS, art, fashion, film, design, gender bias, and more. You may have seen me on TV talking about these topics or heard me on my commute home on the radio or on a podcast. Or maybe you just saw my Bernie meme.

I try to explain topics that you may come across in the news but don’t fully understand, such as NFTs and meme stocks. I’ve had the pleasure of talking about technology with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee and other celebrities who have brought a different perspective to it. I take great care in writing gift guides and am always touched by the feedback I get from people who have used them to choose gifts that have been well received. Although I enjoy writing about the tech industry every day, it is affected by gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequality, and I strive to bring these topics to light.

Outside of PCMag, I write fiction, poetry, humor, and essays on culture.
