Apple TV+ may have a small market share in the streaming space, but it has the highest average of good shows compared to total shows of any platform, by far. One of them is Silo, which will return for a second season on November 15, and early reviews are in. So far, they are perfect.
Season 2 of Silo is currently sitting at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, albeit with not as many critics, but it’s an indication of what’s to come, it seems. That’s up from Season 1’s 88% and puts the show at 94% overall. It has a 66% audience score because people are crazy. I’m sorry, but it’s just a great series.
The show is an adaptation of the Wool series of novels, a concept that resembles the post-apocalyptic life of Fallout. Here’s the official synopsis:
“In a ruined and toxic future, a community exists in a giant underground silo that sinks hundreds of stories deep; there, people live in a society full of rules that they believe are meant to protect them.”
The show’s main draw is the enigmatic Rebecca Fergusson, who seems to be everywhere these days, from Mission Impossible to Dune to the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie. But this is actually her main project. Season 3 has already been greenlit and is actually currently filming as Apple TV+ tries to shorten the time between seasons, something they do expertly with some of their other shows like Slow Horses (but famously not with the boring gap between seasons 1 and 2 of The Departure).
Here’s what some of the critics are saying about the new season:
- Empire – “While this final puzzle box of a season often raises more questions than answers, it remains an engaging series that keeps you guessing if there’s a grain of truth among the lies.”
- Total Film – “A consistently commanding performance from Rebecca Ferguson who goes it alone and supporting stars who are busy at home makes Silo a dystopian future worth staying for.”
- Collider – “Grounding its Orwellian elements in tense human struggles, yet akin to razor-sharp writing, Silo continues to transcend genre, asking viewers to question not only the motives of those in power, but also the strength of their convictions.”
I’m writing this now, a week early, so you have time to enjoy Season 1 of Silo before Season 2 comes out, which should be plenty of time. The series is great, one of my favorites on TV, and as far as sci-fi shows right now? I think you could argue it’s one of the best. Season 2 of Silo arrives on November 15.
Update (11/8): If you HAVE If you’ve already seen it, that means you’re probably subscribed to Apple TV+. And I would assume you probably haven’t seen all the services others Great sci-fi shows for real, nobody’s doing it like them. Here is what I would recommend:
For All Humanity – An alternate history where the Russians landed on the moon first, which actually accelerates the space race to new heights over the decades. Apple keeps delivering season after season, thankfully.
FOUNDATION – An incredible sci-fi series based (loosely) on the famous books, one that looks like the most expensive show on TV, but costs a third of what you’d imagine. Season 2 is better than season 3, but both are great.
Dark Matter – A dimension hopping show adapted by the author of the book himself, it’s insanely weird and was just renewed for a second season.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters – Another show that was renewed for a second season, arguably the best content of Godzilla minus Minus One, and a showcase for Best Actress in a Drama winner Anna Sawai before she hit Shogun.
Leaving work – One of Apple’s most high profile series and one that is sci-fi in the way that Black Mirror is sci-fi. No aliens or apocalypse, but lots of weirdness and season 2 will be out … at some point here.
